I need to understand:
- Do our customers see us differently than they used to?
- Is there a new player on the block who’s just eating our lunch? There will always be competition, but if you’re really getting beaten up, you absolutely must understand why.
I know there might be all sorts of reasons: inferior product, changing customer needs, or lacklustre sales and marketing, but I need to make a proper analysis what is our case.

Let's try to understand who are the competitors. In some cases, it is difficult to find out which companies or products are competing with you.
You need to find out who your customers are and their behaviours. Think about the substitutes to your product or service. Once you know the competitors, you can map them using certain ways. This will help you understand market competition and relative market share.
