We sell stuff through big online stores. Do we really need websites when social media's channels are so effective?

The website is your port for preparing your ships and equipping them with a sense of purpose. Social Media Channels are not the final destination, they are just a good way to communicate the website.
Even if the retailer's website has everything, your reliability both as a supplier and as a brand is increased through the website rather than through social media.
From an SEO perspective, to be on top of google's awareness and gaining the 1st page which is the holy grail of digital results (one of many IMHO) setting up a website with curating content frequently and having a showroom for your goods gives you much higher odds to be liked by Google.
You definitely need a website because no matter will happen to the social media sites, you are creating assets for your brand. Make it slick, simple to use and get a designer for eye-catching results.
Because Google will like you but consumers or end-users or decision-makers will have to love your offering. The social media is just an interaction and you don't own it. The website is your showroom and you are in charge.
Would you let your brand be defined by others?
