Hi All! I just did a presentation for my team and I would like to get some feedback. What would be the best way to do that? What format shall i use and what platform? I haved used Survey Monkey in the past but is there a better one? Also, shall i do more open or closed questions?
Thank you!
Hi Gergana,
1. Platform for feedback?
I have also used Survey Monkey before and I can definitely recommend it. Otherwise, Google Forms are easily accessible and despite there are not so many templates as Survey Monkey- it will do the job perfectly. Both ways you will have the answers received in excel and after that you can use them to draw your analysis.
No matter which one you will choose, the most important thing when you gather a feedback is the form you use to consist of well-structured questions and to gain the maximum information needed.
I will advise you to make 2-3 big sections, eg. General Presentation, Individual Presenters and Overall organisation/catering/venue etc. Under each of the main sections, you need to create particular questions that will give you insights of the audience experience post-presentation.
Out of the box: If you want to experiment and prepare the feedback as an onboarding training and understand how much people understood from the presentation's figures, slides, results etc, you can check https://kahoot.com/businesses/use-cases/#employee-onboarding. I have recently heard about it and it is fun and learning.
2. Type of questions- open or closed?
The key to effective questioning is specificity. By using well-formulated questions you will be able to :
2.1 Open questions expand the discussion and draw out a wide range of responses. For example
2.2 Closed questions narrow discussion and get specific answers. For example:
2.3 How to use questions effectively:
Caveat: You need to take into consideration and be prepared with the occasions of why people generally do not like to give/fill a feedback and here are some main reasons:
Fear of confrontation
Lack of time
Haven’t had good role models to explain why constructive feedback is important for any future improvements
Bad experiences in the past
Feelings of inadequacy if emotions arise
Fear of hurting someone or damaging a relationship
Fear of not being liked/judged
Fear of getting it wrong or being misinterpreted
You can use the reasons above and transfer them in a positive message when you are communicating why you are gathering the feedback.
If that is something new for your team- initiate the first feedback to be anonymous.
It is great that you want to get feedback from the participants. Usually, people are afraid of sharing feedback and even more nervous when reading the feedback, but the actions taken from a feedback can be priceless.

Good luck and I hope you gather the information that will be useful for your work,
