Hi,
I would like to have a better understanding if you are establishing a completely new process, rather than improving one- why would you go for DMADV, rather than DMAIC?
Aren’t both models quite the same?
Is there somebody who had previous experience and observing what works well and what doesn’t with both?
Thanks,
C.
Hi Christian, The two methods are matching, the difference is what they target- the DMAIC targets the business process/es in order to improve it/them, while DMADV’s goal is to improve customer needs and meet customer requirements. That is why if you apply the Lean 5 Lenses or 4 Pillars you always start with Voice of the Customer ( the customer can be internal/external).No matter the cycle after you have covered the customer needs you follow with Define, Measure, Analyse phase. Then, Improve (DMAIC) - is designing the new process, while Design( DMADV) is designing the process that matches the customer needs/requirements. In the Control phase (DMAIC) you continuously improve the process , while Verify (DMADV) is the sense check with the customer is that product/service what he/she expects. No matter which cycle methodology you will use- what you need to identify are the Critical to Quality for the customer factors and that is when your journey starts.
