What are the ways to improve in-house legal work?

24.09.2020 at 16:46h

Bruce   I've done similar work with a variety of in house services which were under threat of outsourcing  First thing is to get the team to accept that the threat is real and then you can focus on how to fend off the threat Start by getting agreement on the key services the team currently offers. Then - as best you can - do some competitor benchmarking. Who - outside - offers a similar service? What do they cost? How well do they perform? What's their competitive edge vis-a-vis the internal ... read more

How to solve partnership issues?

24.09.2020 at 16:55h

Brielle a number of points From what you say you don't currently have partners you have suppliers (and they see you as a customer not a partner) To create a genuine (but not necessarily equal) partnership you need to create a situation where both sides are looking to establish a long-term and mutually beneficial relationship For each supplier think about the following: a) why do we want them as a partner rather than simply as a supplier? b) what benefits can they offer to us as a partner rath... read more

How to define and remove outliers in a data?

24.09.2020 at 16:36h

Marieta be careful about moving "outliers" as this can easily distort your interpretation of the results. There are statistical methods as others have commented. However, before removing an outlier you really should look at that occurrence and try to find out WHY it is an outlier - why is this observation so different from the others? If there are genuine reasons for the difference then remove it If there aren't then you should leave it in the data set as it represents a real situation You co... read more

How to engage and organise volunteers?

24.09.2020 at 14:53h

Tatiana as well as being a consultant I'm also a volunteer so answer from personal experience! It's important to realise there are some key differences between volunteers and employees - and this means you have to manage them differently. First, they're helping because they believe in the cause and want to help.So you need to make sure they understand how their contribution helps achieve some of the top level goals. A strategy map is a big help here. Second, they can walk away at any time. Y... read more

What is the effectiveness of a Balanced Scorecard?

24.09.2020 at 15:04h

Darryan I've helped over 30 organisations go down the Scorecard route - with varying degrees of success from manufacturing, telecomms, finance, utilities to police and mental health services! I don't know of a better approach to linking your strategy with your KPIs - but beware as there's a lot of hype around the Scorecard and some of those "selling" it don't properly understand the logic/theory behind it. Also realise that you can't pull a scorecard off the shelf - it has to be built by your... read more

How to do proper KPI setting?

25.09.2020 at 09:35h

Ionut   There's no "ideal" number of KPI's and you need to distinguish between KPIs for the organisation as a whole and KPIs for an individual/team.   It's a two step process:   First, decide "what" to measure - which aspects of performance to measure. This is about understanding which aspects of performance really matter to the organisation - and the fewer the better. All too often this ends up as a semirandom long list which isn't helpful. An organising framework can help you focus on the "... read more

What is the best way to explain Pareto principle to an SME?

25.09.2020 at 14:04h

Marieta decent business analysis is always difficult for SME's They often don't have the time and it can be difficult to predict the financial benefits in advance. There's also the problem that they may not have the data for such analysis - or at least in a suitable format. If it's a law firm you could start by asking staff/partners - where does our income come from? ie do we get 80% (or thereabouts) of our income from the top 20% of cases we deal with? The answer from staff is usually - we'v... read more

How to set a debt recovery KPI for a Legal director?

26.09.2020 at 16:50h

Clearly there are issues here as to why this has happened already and ther may be office politics at play Otherwise keep it simple Ask for an analysis of how much in total is outstanding ($). Agree how much of this could be recovered and how much written off Agree a timescale for recovery (6 months, 9 months etc) You can the calculate how much ($) per month should be recovered. The KPI's are then:   a) the percentage of that month's target actually recovered ( 100% is above target) b) the cu... read more

What are your business challenges today?

27.09.2020 at 09:52h

with respect the issues raised I think are far too generic and quite traditional - I could have put this list together 20/30/40 years ago. Clearly different organisations face different challenges but I'd argue some of the more relevant are: - adapting to a post Covid world. Depending what the new "normal" evolves as some organisations are going to face major challenges - tourism, hospitality, public transport and any business reliant on mass gatherings - sports, festivals etc. We're in for s... read more
